If your at the stage where any solid food is difficult then go and see your GP and get a prescription for Fortisip, if you have to pay its £7.50 well spent on 60 bottles that retail at £2.50 each.
If you have been diagnosed with cancer then from 01 Apr 09 the Government has introduced free prescriptions for anyone suffering from or recovering from cancer. You’ll need a form signed by your GP then send it off and within a week I had mine back.
There are some recipes if you’re that way inclined but I tend to drink them as they are out of the fridge or put a banana, pear some ice cream and sugar in with a bottle of my choice and blend it all up with my trusty hand blender.

I stocked up on Complan and still use that a lot, I use a bit more milk than it says on the packet, about 250ml and again add anything else you can blend up with it
Other things I have while I’m grazing through the day little by little.
Quavers or Skips potato flavour snacks, they just melt in your mouth if you chew them to a bit of fat and salt but that’s something you need.
Oxo drinks or ‘cowing Bovril’ if your from the West Midlands
Chocolate, of course
Buttery shortbread biscuits but take your time eating them
Crème Caramel
Custard, in loads of flavours
Angel Delight—a whole packet at a time.
Creamy cheese like Stilton or Danish Blue, the extra creamy variety, just let it melt in your mouth.
Tins of soup, although you can get them from Fortisip on prescription but to me they tasted like dog dirt. I tried loads but now its just creamed varieties like tomato and well tomato and basil. I had to regurgitate Oxtail soup last week so anything with bits in is a bit of a turn off.
There’s also Slippery Elm Food - yes I thought it was a wind up too!
Mix it with milk for a high calorie sort of Horlicks drink.
The stuff has an interesting history if you’re bored of this lot.
Guinness, couple of cans a night!
For general aches and pains, back pain caused by the tumor in particular I take soluble paracetamol and codeine from Boots chemist
I also take 500mg of vitamin C each day in a chewable form from Tesco and 60ml of Aloe Vera Gel which is supposed to be good for the immune system when it’s under pressure. Again Aloe Vera has many properties and again you can google that ‘til your heart content.
Some other bits passed on from a colleague at work here gratefully received!
I filled in a quality of life survey for cancer research and the questions in it, and from what I’ve found out since indicate that some patients can’t even drink fluids and some can’t even swallow their own saliva so I guess I’m lucky in that respect!
Well it has now come to this, fitted on the 17 Mar 09 (click pic to enlarge)
but it’s for the best, the blog follows my progress with the tube and
